Gravenhurst and The Capitol Years - joint headline shows and more!

Did Pavement splitting up leave an insatiable void in your life? When Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices proclaimed "We are the kings of indie rock. When we die, indie rock will die", and then split up, did it piss on your musical barbecue? Are you consumed by the gnawing feeling that things will never be the same again, that they simply don't make them like they used to? Friends, I have felt that same pain. But now the pain has gone.

Philadelphia's The Capitol Years will soon arrive on UK soil to play seven shows, including Glastonbury Festival. You may already be familiar with the band whose recent single ‘Revolutions’ was Single of the Week on Radcliffe and Maconie’s Radio 2 show. The shows in Glasgow and Bath will be a Gravenhurst joint-headliner, and I will then be joining The Capitol Years on stage for some songs. I will also be joining The Capitol Years on stage in Derby, and may make appearances at some of their other shows too. This is like the advertising slogan "I liked it so much I bought the company". In this case, I liked them so much I blagged my way into their band.

Online, out and about

Greetings to all you fine, fine people.

Some of you may have noticed that the site wasn't updated for quite a while. This wasn't due to laziness; oh no. In fact, behind the scenes, we have been constructing this new Gravenhurst home on the web. Though when I say 'we', that's not strictly fair, as it's all the work of new web person, the excellent Mr. Morrison. Against a backdrop of original artwork by long-term Gravenhurst collaborator Thomas Hicks

As we speak we're smashing through a virtual wall with a massive cyber-hammer, laying the foundations for the Gravenhurst web-shop, where you'll be able to buy records, t-shirts, posters and other merchandise. I am currently busy producing an album for the immensely talented Polish songstress Anita Lipnicka, but I am pleased to confirm these live dates with more on the way.

- plus support

LONDON: St Giles-In-The-Fields Church
FRI 24TH APR, 2009 7pm-11pm

Tickets

I'm certainly not alone in considering Neil Halstead as one of the UK's most criminally under-valued song writers, and it's possible he is getting frustrated with that kind of description. His twenty year career spans two solo albums, five Mojave 3 albums, and three Slowdive albums. It's a real pleasure to be playing a show with him; I've been asked to play a full-length set so it's a kind of dual-headliner. It's also an all ages show, so feel free to bring your parents without fear of reprisal.

More news soon
